U14 Girls – 5th Place in Idaho

Te U14 Pinnacle Girls showed they could compete against American competition as they won 2 games and lost only 1 over the May long weekend. Unfortunately the loss kept the girls out of the semi finals. However, despite the loss they rebounded with a solid effort to capture 5th place in the 12 team tournament.

The first game was played on Saturday and was against a tough team from Post Falls, Idaho. The Pinnacles came onto the pitch and took command of the play from start to finish. The Penticton team took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Zoe Fraser and Crystal Schuder. After the two goals they kept the pressure on and worked their defensive shell. The game ended 2-0 and strong performances were put in by two first year players Evyn Haberstock and Megan Sociedade; Anne Thielmann was in net for the shutout. In their afternoon game against Whitefish, Montana the U14 girls got behind early in the first half 0-2. The score was not indicative of the play as the Pinnacles had several chances to score. In the second half the U14 girls made a valiant comeback. They dominated the play, but only scored 1 goal by Zoe Fraser. The final score was 1-2. More strong performances came from Amanda Chyzzy on offense and Carolyn Johnson on defense.

The team’s final game was on Sunday against Spokane. Although relegated to the consolation side the team preformed at a high level and again controlled much of the play. The team stormed out to a 2-0 lead and didn’t look back. Ann Thielmann scored the first goal early in the match and Kate Holowaty knocked in the second goal a minute before the halftime whistle. Nikita Afonso was strong in net earning the shutout; other players of note were Bryanne Francisco and Brianne Hrynyk who both controlled the middle of the field.
