The Summerland U11/12 girls brought home the gold medal in a recent tournament. The girls attended the Port Coquitlam Thanksgiving tournament and went undefeated for the weekend. In their first game they defeated the Port Coquitlam Lightning with a score of 2-0, the mvp of the game went to Alix Varchol. In their second game they faced the North Coquitlam Ladybirds. This was a real mudfest as it was pouring rain and being played on a very soggy field. The girls won with a score of 1-0, the MVP going to Lina Campagnaro. In their semi-final game, the girls played the Port Moody Rockets. As it was finally sunny for this game the girls took full advantage and beat the Rockets 3-0, the MVP going to Beth Thomas.
In their final game, the girls played an excellent match against the Port Coquitlam Buzzing Bees. It was a hard fought match with scoring chances both ways. The girls found the back of the net in the second half and hung on to the lead to win the gold medal. It was a fantastic, wet, weekend of soccer for this wonderful team! Playing for Summerland was Alix Varchol, Beth Thomas, Teagan Phillips, Tiana West, Lina Campagnaro, Alanna Goodman, Laura Kohan, Sarah Dean, Kylie Erb, Jennifer Lukiv, and Shannon Clarke (who posted a shut-out as Keeper in every game).
