Pinnacles U13 boys won 30th annual KYSA Cup

The boys U13 Pinnacles soccer team won the 30th annual KYSA Cup in Kamloops on the May long weekend.

The team played outstanding defence and allowed only one goal in four games. The team out scored their opponents 7-1 throughout the tournament. The back wall, consisting of Garrett Wiltse, Lex Phillips, Jack Garnier, Brad Styles, Ryan Stephens, and Tyler Gerelus played practically flawless soccer allowing their opponents very few scoring opportunities. Solid goaltending duties were shared by Jordan Schalm, Matthew Stadnyk, Garnier, Phillips, Gerelus. In the first game of the tournament the team beat Kelowna 2-1 with Keenan Findlay and David Ruocco providing the scoring. The second game was against West Vancouver which saw the Pinnacle team shutout the lower mainland squad 2-0. Goal scorers were Findlay and Phillips. Phillips’ goal was a 35 yard howitzer that brought the fans to their feet. In the last of the round robin games the Pinnacles dominated Terrace 3-0. Matt Stadnyk, Cole Kingzett, and Wiltse all found the back of the net.
After the round robin games were completed the Pinnacles were once again matched up against the West Vancouver club team in the final. The teams battled through regulation and two overtime halves only to remain in a 0-0 draw. The pinnacles mid-field of Cam Lynka, Ben Nazaroff, Kyle Gratton, Stadnyk, and Findlay worked tirelessly throughout the game. Pinnacle forwards Dan Thornton, Kingzett and Ruocco worked well together but could not get a ball past the Vancouver goalie. Great goal tending duties were shared by Schalm and Gerelus.
The final outcome came down to a five man shootout with Gerelus playing in goal for the South Okanagan team. In dramatic fashion Gerelus stopped three penalty shots while Kingzett, Findlay, and Wiltse scored for the Pinnacles to win the tournament.
