The Pinnacles U14 Girls opened their weekend Friday night (April 11) with an exhibition game against a U14 team from Coquitlam at Kings Park under the lights. The local team stormed out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Melanie Girard assisted by Kara Perehudoff; and Zoe Fraser from Bryanne Francisco. However, the visitors scored a late first half goal and then an early goal in the second half to draw even. The Pinnacles poured on the pressure in the latter part of the game, but were unable to score again. Yolanda Hector had a strong game as her speed and skill gave the Coquitlam defenders trouble for most of the game. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
On Sunday, the team continued with its league schedule playing on Marshall Field in Vernon. The Vernon side came out strong and fast on their home turf as they scored an early goal to take a 1-0 lead. Penticton was able to get one goal of their own, scored by Anne Theilmann, and they were tied going into half time. Vernon again took the lead, early in the second half, as they converted a penalty shot. Despite trailing twice the U14 girls rallied; Natalie Webb made a beautiful pass to Brianne Hrynyk for Penticton’s second goal. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. Next action for the girls is on Saturday April 19th as they host Calgary for an exhibition game and then they travel to Kamloops for their next league game on Sunday April 20th.
