General Manager
Based in Penticton, B.C., The South Okanagan Youth Soccer Association (SOYSA) is a progressive, not-for-profit amateur soccer club focused on providing comprehensive soccer programs for the residents in the South Okanagan community. We are in the process of building an indoor facility and have just expanded the number of lit fields that we have at our disposal. We believe that it is now time to find a General Manager who can provide SOYSA with the necessary leadership and expertise to ensure our success as a financially stable, well managed and ethically responsible organization that will be seen as a model soccer club in North America.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and implement the business planning process.
- Assist the treasurer in the development and coordination of the annual budget; combined with, ongoing financial management and accounting responsibilities.
- Develop and manage fundraising and sponsorship relationships.
- Lead the SOYSA public relations and promotions including ongoing communication to members, the board, suppliers, soccer associations, government, external partners and the cities and municipalities whose citizens we serve.
- Provide day-to-day club management including policy and administration management and oversee the running of the indoor facility
Education and Experience:
- Minimum five years experience in a business management and administration leadership role, preferably in a volunteer organization.
- Experience in the management and administration of a Canadian amateur sports association an asset.
- Experience working with a volunteer board an asset.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or Sports Management.
- Preference will be given to an individual with experience in coaching and a recognized coaching certificate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Solid governance knowledge and understanding
- Knowledge of financial management, marketing, risk management and sports/recreation systems
- Strong knowledge of volunteer organizations
- Strong business acumen and demonstrated strategic business planning skills
- Proven consultative skills and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to network and communicate with individuals across the organization both internally and externally
- Ability to lead and motivate a team
- Strong decision making and problem solving skills
- Strong administration skills with the ability to multi task, organize priorities and manage and allocate resources accordingly
- Excellent computer skills with strong competence in Microsoft Office.
- A passion for soccer
